Welcome to The Golden Snow Less Contest

I think the way this season is going we may end up renaming the contest the Golden Snow Less Award. When Binghamton is winning the contest with just flake over the 3 inch mark something just isn't right. Syracuse broke the all time record of 276 consecutive days in a row with less than an inch of snowfall that went way back to 1946 on Friday and we are still adding on the days. Just to show you how strange that is, CNN's weather even mentioned it. Read more about the record at Syracuse.com

I did a shout out for help on finding out what kind of record Buffalo is sledding toward and Jill came through with an article from Buffalo news.com. Thanks Jill :) According to a story on their site Buffalo has now had the 4th longest period without measurable snow on record which dates back to 1884. The record they just passed for 4th was 233 days that was set in 1998. The thing is they still have a realistic shot at moving to their 3rd longest stretch without snow if they can make it to 240 days. 239 days will tie the record set in 1922. A good article about it is at Buffalonews.com.

Selhan a visitor to the site mentioned that the Democrat and Chronicle has an article out about how their snow less days are adding up. Brian Sharp wrote that according to Steve McLaughlin from the national weather service this has been the longest snow less period in 57 years. You can check it out at the http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20091127/NEWS01/911270337 . Thanks Selhan : ) This can only mean one thing!

No I'm not talking about global warming. I'm talking about it's, it's, it's time for

THE SNOW DANCE!

As much as I am enjoying this like most of you are it just isn't right. Doesn't feel right and drastic measures need to be taken. The snow dance will take place within the next couple of days. As you all know it will be at an undisclosed location and time for the fact that it must never be recorded.
Hey, the big cities in New York are getting our butts kicked right now in the new snowiest city in the US contest by the big cities in Colorado. That's not going to happen. At least not on my watch without at least giving the snow dance a shot ; ) Right now Buffalo, Syracuse and Rochester are all behind the US snow contest by around 3 feet. Nothing to worry about this early in the season but it's time to get the white gold flying again and make sure one of us lock up the bragging rights as snowiest big city in the US.

Have a Great Week All!

I can feel the snow comming! I really can't believe it's heading into December already. I keep thinking we got plenty of time for some snow but a snowless November in Buffalo that is a rare sight. Speaking of statistics, the record latest date for the first measurable snowfall in Buffalo is December 3rd. While it's only 4 days away it's looking like it will be close as to how late we can hold off on the flakes.

If you have any outdoor holiday decorating to finish up or want to give your yard one more trim this is looking like the last few days to get it done. Hate to admit this but I still havent pulled out the snowblower yet to tune it up. Thinkin I'll take advantage of the day off on Tuesday to do that.

Good luck with your first snow dance of the season Pat. Based on my past track record I'm going to spare the good people of Buffalo from any misfortunes and hold off on joining you in a snow dance this week.

Selhan, Thanks for the information and it's really appreciated. The longest period without snow in 57 years for The Rock.

Ha, Ha General. Yes, please do all of us a favor and lay off the snow dance. If memory serves me right one created a wind storm and the other an ice storm maybe??? I'm hoping to get the outdoor decorations up maybe on Tuesday. I think rain is in the forecast for Dacuse tomorrow :( Should have done them today.

3.2 inches at Buffalo as of 5am. That should but us in the lead for a little while!
